Troop 70, founded in 1969 by New Canaan native Vern Thunem, holds the distinction of being the oldest Boy Scout troop in town. Fondly remembered by many as the "camping troop," Troop 70 has a deep love for outdoor adventure and a long-standing reputation for developing responsible young citizens who live by the Scout Oath and Law. Over the years, we’ve embarked on memorable adventures, from hiking the White Mountains and exploring the mountains of New Mexico, to canoeing in the Delaware Water Gap, skiing in Vermont, and traveling as far as Switzerland, Japan, Scotland, and even camping in Iceland. But Troop 70 is about more than just adventure. We are dedicated to helping others, whether it’s organizing our annual toy drives, feeding the homeless in New York City, or serving our local community.
